Gluten Free – no wheat or gluten flour needed, if they go a bit runny just thicken with a small amount of corn flour, but this may not be necessary.

Great way to use up – any older mushrooms or small amounts of cream that needs using. I don’t like to waste anything!

Ingredients needed for Creamy Mushrooms

  • Butter – approx. 25 grams
  • Mushrooms – 1 Cup of sliced button, Swiss or portobello mushrooms
  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pepper – to taste
  • Cream – 1/4 Cup
  • Corn flour – 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon (may not be required)

Medium size frying pan/skillet, cutting board, sharp knife, wooden spoon

How to make Creamy Mushrooms

Step One

In a medium fry pan/skillet melt the butter over a medium heat, add the sliced mushroom to the melted butter and gently cook. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.

As the liquid from the mushrooms slowly gathers in the pan season with salt and pepper. Add a little more butter if required to avoid sticking.

Step Three

Continue to gently cook until the mushrooms are tender, this should take approximately 5-7 minutes. There should be moisture from the mushrooms in the bottom of the pan, do not allow it to dry out.

Step Four

Once the mushrooms are tender add the cream. Simmer gently for a few minutes until the sauce thickens.

If you accidently add too much cream, thicken the sauce by adding small amounts of corn flour to the liquid until desired texture is achieved. Just make sure you give the corn-flour time to cook for a few minutes – it will thicken quite quickly.
