Relax and unwind with this easy Bath Salt Recipe. Gentle on the skin and very affordable – it is ideal for sore or tired muscles and helps improve sleep.

Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Epson Salt
- 1 Cup Pink Himalayan Salt
- 10-15 drops Essential Oil (Optional)
Note: Do not use regular table salt as it may dry or irritate the skin.
Method:
- Stir Epson Salt and Himalayan Salt together in a large bowl with a wooden spoon
- Add Essential Oil and gently stir through
- Transfer mixture into an air-tight glass jar or wide mouth bottle
- Store out of direct sunlight
- Makes enough for 3 uses
Application:
- Add 1 Cup of Bath Salts to warm running water
- Stir the bath water with your hand to help the Bath Salts dissolve
- Optional: scatter a few rose petals or lavender flowers into the bath
- Soak and enjoy the warm, relaxing bath for at least 12 minutes – avoid using soap so the body can absorb the magnesium and sulfate in the salts.
A quick note on Essential Oils, please do your own research on which Essential Oils you choose to use. This is especially important if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have young children in your family. If you choose to use oils ensure they are a pure, organic brand and only use a few drops of essential oils in DIY recipes. I also recommend doing a small skin test to check for irritation.
Which Essential Oil Should I Use in my Bath Salt Recipe?
- Rose – (my personal favourite) gentle, may help improve skin tone. Smells AMAZING!
- Lavender – Relaxing, can help improve sleep
- Peppermint – Refreshing and energizing
- Eucalyptus – may help clear airways and relieve sore muscles
A little bit about Epson Salts
Epsom salts are a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Magnesium is important for many systems in the body especially the muscles and nerves, especially muscle control, electrical impulses, energy production and the elimination of harmful toxins. Sulfur is essential in the formation of brain tissue, joint proteins and digestive enzymes that line the walls of the digestive tract. It is believed both magnesium and sulfate are easily absorbed through the skin. Therefore, soaking in an Epsom salt bath can be the most effective and one of the easiest ways to maintain adequate levels of these essential minerals.
